The mists hang still over the valley, the rain falling lightly but steadily. The leaves on the trees below my house are covered in large wet drops, each one distinct, glistening, the new green of the leaves vivid, shiny. There is strong bright light hidden behind the mist, I can feel the heat through the windows. Summer is threatening to burst through. I am waiting. I am ready.
The first day of summer

- I like the idea of counting each day as a separate life. Starting anew, celebrating what we have, rather than what we don't. Remembering days that have shaped me, made me who I am. Or just today.

Christmas in summer still boggles my mind.

Lovely — but of course I am jealous.

I read this with icy hands and feet…
Helen, maybe Christmas in summer to you is like what pumpkin with sugar is to Mali…

I have to laugh. I made pumpkin muffins yesterday and I’m having pumpkin ice cream right now. Remember: think clove, nutmeg, cinnamon flavor. If you like banana bread or zucchini bread you’d like it just fine.
But reading you (and Mrs. S…) was always interesting to me because of the season change. And always hardest right now. In about three weeks I’ll be ready to sit in the sun and bask like a lizard. And jealous.

IB, I think you’re right.
Bridgett: Today is a “basking like a lizard” day, except that I stay out of the sun for fear of skin cancer. It’s nice to know I could if I wanted, though.
It’ll be champagne on the deck tonight I think.

Can one bask in the shade? Because I don’t lay around and tan either but I do soak up the heat. I don’t know what summers are like there, but here they are rather swampy. The heat clings to you.
Oh how I miss it right now. Flurries and wintery mix be damned!
