- Now that I’m 50 (I still scream silently inside each time I think that), I know that there is a limit to the amount of flesh I should show on a hot summer day. In fact, there is a limit even when you’re in your 20s. But sadly there are plenty of women around who don’t know this.
- On the other hand, summer clothes mean bright colours. Happy colours. How can we not smile when we shrug off our serious black on black outfits, and wear flowery dresses, bright shirts, and joyous jewellery.
- I’m thinking that this year I’ll have TWO annual gelato days, given that I missed having one at all last summer.
- Happy hour starts earlier in summer (ie, now). Don’t ask me why. It just does.
- There’s a pleasure in new beginnings. With the arrival of the hot (ok, I know you read my previous post, so I should have said “warm”) weather, a New Year starts. There’s something happy and refreshing about that; something inspiring, motivational even.
- I wish I could fill the house with flowers. I want to, badly. But hay fever makes me cautious. Fortunately, I have happy flower photos on my office wall.
- Entertaining is easier. Barbecues (weather permitting of course) are pretty much compulsory. And I love barbecue food – both cooking and eating. Grilled capsicums, aubergine, zucchini. Corn on the cob. Salads. Chilled white wine.
- Ripe tomatoes. Enough said.
- Drinks on the deck while dinner cooks.
- The knowledge that at this time of the year, there’s nowhere I’d rather be than New Zealand.

- I like the idea of counting each day as a separate life. Starting anew, celebrating what we have, rather than what we don't. Remembering days that have shaped me, made me who I am. Or just today.

Fantastic! I want to hear more about two annual gelato days. Must one eat gelato all day? (I don’t think this would be a bad thing.)

IB, I like your interpretation of an annual gelato day. (I could eat gelato all day, I am sure of it!) I will definitely record them when they happen. In the meantime, this was my last annual gelato day, almost two years ago … https://aseparatelife.wordpress.com/2011/03/24/today-is-annual-gelato-by-the-beach-day/

It is truly spectacular there this time of year.. but 2 gelati, that seems crazy, unless you are having 2 a day, which is what I am about to go do:) Life is too short to limit gelato intake!

Great list!
You made me feel ready for summer myself (but there are many months until that happens here). Enjoy the sun and the lovely weather and all the entertaining!
