Annual Gelato Day 2012. No, that is not a typo. It is simply that 2012 was such a dismal summer that I never got around to having a Gelato Day, so it was deferred till this year. So on Friday afternoon, after a long meeting, I escaped the city, and along with dozens of other people, decided that the Bay was the place to be. I sat on the bench, watching the 50 or so people lying on the beach, the few brave souls swimming in the water, the group of kids crowded onto the pontoon out in the bay, and the toddler paddling in the shallows. The usual suspects passed me – the dog walkers, joggers, tourists from the cruise ship, cyclists, mums or nannies pushing prams, and elderly couples enjoying the sun. The tide was out and the waves non-existent, the water a beautiful Mediterranean blue. The atmosphere was tropical, reminiscent of somewhere in the South Pacific.
And I slowly licked my luscious, passionfruit gelato.
