Dona, who was the inspiration behind my suggestion that we share our favourite recipes, has shared her pot roast recipe. I grew up hearing (on US TV shows) about pot roasts, but never quite knowing what they were. Kiwis roast a lot – we roast lamb (or mutton, when I was on the farm), and beef, and pork, and we love roast root vegetables (roast parsnips are my favourite), but always in the oven. So pot roasts are quite foreign to me.
We share so much that is similar, even across the oceans, so it is surprising sometimes when something as simple as dinner reminds me of our differences. Differences that can be celebrated.
