About seven years ago, my husband and I spent a week in the beautiful Coromandel Peninsula at Christmas. I was most disappointed to discover then that the pohutukawa – New Zealand’s Christmas tree – had flowered a few weeks early. So this year, knowing that we don’t have any overseas trips planned, and knowing too that my husband has reduced hours in December, we decided to take a week, visit Charlie and her parents, and go in search of pohutukawa in bloom. Alas, it seems that temperatures in New Zealand this year are a month behind, and the pohutukawa won’t bloom until Christmas or later! I can’t win.
Or maybe I can, as this is the view from our rented apartment this afternoon.
Let the relaxation begin!
