The first cooking I ever really did was baking, and I grew up knowing how to use my mother’s cake mixer though as an adult I’ve never actually had one – until now. I’ve experimented with one of my favourite flavours, making ginger kisses from a new recipe my niece recommended. And best of all, and perhaps most dangerous of all, I have been making use of my new (and free!) freezer bowl, which is quite dangerous for an ice-cream lover. I blame my mother – it’s genetic!
My first attempt at making ice-cream, with puree from fresh seasonal strawberries, saw my eyes roll in ecstasy at the first taste, and the deluxe chocolate ice-cream, served with fresh raspberries and strawberries, and made in honour of a friend who came for dinner on Friday, was also pretty damned good (if I do say so myself), though next time I might add even more chocolate. Knowing that only quality ingredients have gone into the ice-cream seem to make it taste even more delicious. Next step will be gelato, made only with milk to keep it slightly healthier and bring through the flavours even more. It seems that this summer, maybe every day will be a Gelato Day.
