Facebook killed blog comments. I looked back about eight years recently, and it was so lovely to see who was commenting on my blogs. Fortunately, many of this small group of people I first met on my blogs are still around on social media, so I still see what’s going on in their lives. But many are no longer writing or commenting, not even on the blogs of their real-life friends. I blame Fb, as well as mobile devices that make it hard to comment, so I doubly appreciate the comments I do receive when I know it would be so easy to just read and move on.
But on the bright side, there are two young men (okay, boys) in my life who are currently on holiday with their parents. They’re each keeping a blog. I’m getting to see some of my favourite places through their eyes, and it’s wonderful.
It’s so awesome that these two young men are blogging about their trip!
I started blogging probably six years after I opened my Facebook account and I have to say that I enjoy the intimacy of blogging compared to Facebook. I haven’t even bothered to attempt Twitter yet because it’s even less personal than Facebook.

You are so right about this. Facebook has become another in-box. And I do begin to count on it to let me know some of you have blogged. That’s a bad habit, especially because I don’t note my own blog posts on Facebook. I don’t because I don’t want all those FBers to know I have a blog. I am trying to do a little better lately—and you are an inspiration and one of the reasons I continue to write. I want you too, so I must too. I have hopes for tomorrow (your today—I’m only up because I hosted friends to watch the Downton Abbey finale!).

I don’t always promote my blog posts on Facebook either. Sometimes I like to keep just a bit more low-key.

True. Some of my friends comment on the link I share on Facebook, but not on the blog itself which I find amusing. But it is okay I guess. And I have a couple of very loyal friends who comment, no matter what. 😀

I completely agree that my motivation to comment via mobile handy is minimal. I’m finally back at a computer rather than my mobile. Brace yourself world!

And I forgot to say I always read your blogs even if I don’t comment:)

Online interactions have certainly changed thanks to FB, Twitter, and such. Like shail, I have had friends comment on FB in response to a blog link I’ve shared, but I’m trying to remember that it’s all good. 🙂

I’ve noticed the same thing. I, too, am fond of those old days, and I still like to leave comments and receive them like so many of us did back then.

You are so correct! I was cleaning ideas from my old blog the other day for middle school sharing fodder, noticing that I regularly had 12 comments or more on a blog post!

Totally agree. Just wrote a long reply and my tablet spat it out lol! xx

My apologies for the horrific typo.

I miss comments too. Of course I have been neglecting them myself lately. :p To receive you must also give, right? And I must say you are one of the best commenters out there — not just prolific but always thoughtful and well-written. 🙂

That’s the sort of comment I like!
