Whilst I usually make my own pasta sauces, I do have a favourite commercial sauce that I have been buying for some years now. It’s nothing special – a simple tomato sauce, useful for when I want something quickly. Except that now it seems the manufacturers have discontinued it, keeping the other tomato sauce (of the same brand) that I don’t like nearly as much.
I have a large blister on the bottom of each foot, developed after I a) wore relatively new sandals into the city last week, and then b) had to race back to my carpark when I realised I was running/had run out of time on the meter.
Political discussions amongst friends and their friends on Fb, whilst interesting, are going to make my head explode. I’m torn between a) reading them, exposing myself to alternative opinions but risking raising my blood pressure/heart rate/stress levels, and b) ignoring them, sticking to a variety of respected news outlets, and losing that personal understanding of politics and motivations.
This summer hasn’t really been summer for those of us in Wellington yet, as we have been tormented by spring conditions – low temperatures, and high winds.
But fortunately there is almost always a bright side, and these are:
- I generally like my own pasta sauces (including recipes received from fellow bloggers) better than the bought ones
- My blisters are healing, and I didn’t get a parking ticket, and
- Today is a lovely sunny day, as predicted by a spectacular sunset last night (photographed from my deck).
Gorgeous sunset! Oh, blisters. Hate those. Can ruin a perfectly good outing. I am staying out of political discussions on facebook for the most part. I’m not going to change anyone’s mind and there are people who just latch on and don’t let go, and I feel that accomplishes nothing but my own raised blood pressure. I like reading what people post that is actually news, but some of the memes I fear have misinformation or are just plain mean, and I don’t want to stoop to that. I get that one completely. I am sorry about the sauce…it’s the worst when you have a favorite and it goes away. I love Trader Joe’s Autumn Harvest sauce (pumpkins, butternut squash, roasted red pepper, carrots, etc) but they sold out within 3 weeks this year and I only got 3 jars. Booo. Hopefully they make more next year (or I’ll be smarter and just buy up 10 jars at once each time I go). I love that you ended with the things that make it all okay, and a beautiful sunset.

So many things I like and become attached to get discontinued, it seems. I feel your pain on the pasta sauce. (And I’m quiet about politics, but as you might imagine, this is going to be a rough week for me.)

I’ve giving up trying to make my own sauce since I moved here, I’ve way too many little Italian restaurants/stalls around me and I got lazy. I see it as supporting my community.
*wink, wink

I have never made my own pasta sauce…I just don’t know where to begin with it! I have a couple brands of stuff in jars that I like – but I would love to really learn a good, wholesome and not-terribly-hard recipe for a delicious sauce!

I hear you on the FB political discussions!
Love your bright side of things, especially that amazing sunset!

Oh, I know the feeling…maybe not re: pasta sauce specifically (particularly since tomatos are verboten for me), but other products that I’ve loved & used for many years that suddenly disappear from the store shelves, and then trying to find something I like to replace it with. And yes, breaking in new footwear sucks… I almost always wind up with blisters or chafing somewhere. And political posts on Facebook… I’ve had to unfollow a few people over the past few months because of those. 😦
On the bright side, I am glad you had a lovely day & I hope they continue!

Yay for the brighter side of things. With very few exceptions FB posters are making me quite weary. So double yay for the brighter sides!

Beautiful photo! And I hate it when something I like is discontinued or changed.
