The orange cake recipe I referred to in my last post can be found here. It’s easy, tasty, and perfect with some greek yoghurt or whipped cream.
We’ve finally – it was delayed due to coordinating overseas travel of three of the brothers and their families – had the farewell function for my mother-in-law, and just a few hours ago interred her ashes in the family plot. We had delayed it a few days, as the date originally chosen was wet and wild, and today it was warm, sunny, with a moderate (for Wellington) breeze, and we were able to have a fitting farewell, with rosemary for remembrance, and flowers from her garden. It was all personal and private, which is what she wanted, and went perfectly.
A week or so ago, we had a short interlude driving north to my sister’s, to child-sit Charlie for the weekend (hence missing Microblog Mondays last week), and I’ll write a new “What Charlie Taught Me” post soon. It was avocado-picking season on their small orchard, and we came back laden with delicious, perfect, creamy avocados, which we have been gifting to as many friends and relatives as we can. I wrote a little about where they live in my x365 Take Two blog here.
I’m so glad you got a nice warm, sunny day to celebrate and honor your mother in law, and that everything went so smoothly.
I have the hardest time picking out avocados! I wish I knew how to find the perfect, creamy and delicious avocado!!

The answer is “get them from my sister!”

Oh, wow, avocados are my favorite but they are SO expensive here…$1.50 a piece usually, which is crazy. Please enjoy some for me!! Also thank you for posting the recipe for the orange cake, I am excited to try it out.
And I am sorry about mil but the service sounds lovely and fitting. Hugs to you.

Glad that the farewell for your MIL went well.
Funny enough, I never thought about avocados growing on trees. I love them, but never really considered where they would come from (and like Charlotte mentioned, they’re super expensive here). Those sound so good! Enjoy!
Also looking forward to trying out the orange cake recipe. It sounds amazing.

Welcome back; I’ve missed your posts! 🙂 Glad you had some family time and a good sendoff for your MIL. The orange cake recipe sounds divine. 🙂 I have to admit, avocados are not something I have eaten much of — I don’t know what they cost, but I imagine they’re expensive here too, & that’s why I wasn’t exposed to them when I was growing up. 😉

I’m sorry it’s taken me a week to read this. Your mother-in-law’s remembrance sounds wonderful, perfect. Thinking of you.

rosemary for remembrance sounds lovely, as do the flowers-from-own-garden.
A taiwanese friend of mine made milk shake with avocado. It never even occured to me you could do that, but if you have plenty you could give it a go, smooth and creamy as you would expect.

Hi, I checked out the orange cake recipe. Any idea why the oranges need to cook for an entire hour? That just makes the whole cake planning so much more complicated…

The peel needs to cook down so it can be blitzed in there food processor. Some similar recipes say cook for two hours! But yes, it means you need to do that in advance, because then it needs to cool.
