A simple trip to the supermarket today had me inspired to write at least four different blog topics. (Fortunately, when I got home, I wrote them down. And realised that I could only remember one two. Oh well, 50% isn’t such a bad result.)

“The supermarket?” you say, sceptical, disbelieving.

And I can understand that. My life is now so ordinary that I have to blog about the inspiration found at the supermarket, rather than in an exotic destination. From the sublime to the mundane, sadly. But that’s life, and it’s my life at the moment. And inspiration can indeed be found at the supermarket. The staff have new uniforms, and though they look smart, they’re not all happy about it. I’m getting used to New Zealand prices again, realising they’re not as bad as I thought (euros to NZ dollars is not a fair comparison, neither is Italian-height-of-summer capsicum/zucchini/tomato prices to those of a stormy spring in New Zealand).  I’m loving the variety of produce compared to that of Italian supermarkets, and of course there is the comfort that comes from familiarity that makes this enjoyable, as much as discovery and amusement at the differences made a trip to Italian supermarkets interesting.

We had coffee and lunch at the café next door, and that provided inspiration too. Girls from the High School next door remind us of the time in the school year. I compared my coffee with those I’d consumed over the last five months. And my husband and I sat and read from newspapers and magazines we collected on arrival. After five months of non-stop conversation, we were both happy to read together in silence.
