We crossed the Tasman, drawn together by blood ties and love, much as we had done several years earlier for her sister, though more of us this time, the distance easier to navigate, the location less exotic, though still with beaches, and heat, and plenty of Thai restaurants, and we again sought out the air-conditioning, grateful that the 38 degrees on Thursday dropped, closer to 30 on the big day, as we were taken on a magical mystery tour, across rivers, alongside more golden endless beaches, then transferred onto a train, festooned with ribbons, through subdued green, blessedly cooler bush, arriving at a gentle glade next to a calm turtle-filled pond, where we oohed and aahed at beauty and handsomeness, witnessed, smiled, laughed, wiped away a few tears, cheered, congratulated, hugged, sipped champagne, and – while waiting for them to pose and smile some more, we were introduced to some unexpected scaly guests – who didn’t seem at all bothered by the comparisons of their skin to shoes and handbags – before a return journey past docile bears, Skippys by the dozen, and a benign devil or two, arriving at last back at the beach as the sun began to set, ready for an evening of merriment, food and wine and dancing, though we escaped regularly out onto the balcony for a welcome Pacific breeze and a moment to gaze up at the full moon gazing down across the water and all of us, wishing A and B a life filled with love and joy and happily ever after, before finally we collected our discarded shoes and walked home to the sound of the waves, under all those southern stars.

- I like the idea of counting each day as a separate life. Starting anew, celebrating what we have, rather than what we don't. Remembering days that have shaped me, made me who I am. Or just today.

So much symbolism here. Lots to think about, but the picture painted is a beautiful one.

What a perfect post, and a perfect sounding wedding. I particularly liked the “benign devil or two.”
